Final Report Unveiled; Roll-out of Community Vision Begins

Redding, CA - ShastaFORWARD>> is the single largest effort undertaken in Shasta County to inject local citizen participation into the community-building process.  Over three years in the making and loaded with detailed input from over 2,500 residents, the ShastaFORWARD>> Final Report was recently released to the public.  Included in the Final Report is the community's "Preferred Regional Growth Vision" for accommodating Shasta County's growing population while preserving its natural landscape and agricultural lands, building long-term economic self-sufficiency, and providing an effective and healthy balance of mobility options.

The Vision will be utilized to inform local and regional planning processes, including development of the following:

·         Sustainable Communities Strategy for the reduction of vehicle-based greenhouse gas emission reductions as required by Senate Bill 375.

·          Regional Priorities Compact outlining the region's core priorities and specific action items required for implementation.

·          Update of Regional Transportation Plan project priorities in order to more proactively and intentionally influence the form, function, and livability of the region.

Residents will first see the ShastaFORWARD>> Regional Blueprint's roll-out in the form of "seeding" projects in designated growth areas.  A yet-to-be-determined list of community-generated seeding projects aimed at catalyzing desired growth patterns will be deployed by local and regional agencies.  The community, developers, and local entrepreneurs may then help realize the vision over time in a way that best suits the
marketplace.

Past and new participants are invited to be a part of this exciting community-building process.  To learn more about the ShastaFORWARD>> Regional Blueprint project from the ground up, please visit the project website at www.shastaforward.com.  To receive a free copy of the Final Report booklet, email your request and mailing address to info@shastaforward.com or give us a call at 530-225-5486.
